When blaming our forbears for mistakes in the past it is worthwhile contemplating why they acted like they did.
So often in the Middle East the west stepped in as part of a larger conflict and had to deal with fragmented Muslim groups:
who could not be trusted once your back was turned
who would change sides at the drop of a hat
who were feudal in their outlook.
who were cruel and cowardly in the extreme (and still are)
who had no idea of economic development
You guys should be thanking the West, you were dragged kicking and screaming into the twentieth century.
