EDITED BY SARAH THOMPSON, ANTHONY MACDONALD AND JAKE MITCHELL Digital real estate marketing group Onthehouse Holdings has emerged as the frontrunner to pick up news website Property Observer. The ASX-listed Onthehouse is one of several interested parties but is believed to be open to paying the highest price. The company’s former chief executive Michael Fredericks resigned earlier this month following an investigation into a civil matter. Property Observer is published and 90 per cent owned by Private Media, which also publishes news website Crikey, with the remaining 10 per cent controlled by co-founder and editor at large Jonathan Chancellor. It’s understood Chancellor hopes to continue with his editorial role if the site is sold. His stake is up for sale but subject to negotiation. Private Media has appointed corporate advisory firm Federation Capital to handle inquiries. Chancellor spent 25 years as property editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, which is a stablemate of The Australian Financial Review, published by Fairfax Media.
