Fluoride has been added to Melbourne's water supply since 1977, so I think any birth abnormalities would have been well and truly apparent by now. It is certainly no worse than the numerous medical tablets people are prescribed every week of the year. Many, if not all, have some degree of side effects.
And I disagree with your assertion that tobacco is a Government sanctioned drug. If the Federal Government thought that by banning it, it could stop people from smoking, I am sure it would enact legislation to-morrow. I am not sure, of course, if all the revenue it collects from smoking goes into prevention thereof or medical assistance to those suffering from the consequences of smoking. But that's another issue.
