Spudding basically refers to an Operator commencing their drilling Operations, simply put when the drill-bit hits the seafloor.

The following is the sequence of events :

1) Offshore well spudding is done using a larger diameter drill bit about 36" (currently underway)
2) This is followed by running a conductor pipe to protect the top-hole about 30" dia.
3) After this, the Blow out preventer is installed & pressure tested
4) They then change over to another drillbit 17.5", run 13" casing and cement that section,
5) Swap over to 12.25" bit & run 9" casing, cement it and drill the 8.5" section.

So a well usually has 4 to 5 sections, depending on its proposed TD.

K2 should b a shallow well (unlike K#1 which TD'd at 3049m) & the first casing point should b about 800-900m & the nxt one should b around 1400-1500m.The reservoir top is expected at apprx 1640m.

The final drilled depth, when drilling ceases on a well, is referred to as TD (ie Total Depth).

Once on TD, they run multiple wireline logs, take sidewall cores, do a flowtest & then set plugs to abandon the wellsite in a safe manner.

The last part is known as P&A & depending on the final results the well is classed as a successful discovery or appraisal well or a duster.
