I also tend to look at how the consumer is behaving as well.
There are two Reject Shops in my vicinity. Any time I go in there, there are lots of buyers. They normally have three registers working, which isn't bad for the size of the store.
TRS reckons average sale per person is about $10 I believe, so, based on what I have seen, sales are going pretty well in my local stores.
Another indication for me is that stock seems to turn over fairly quickly. I pop into my closest store maybe twice a week (I need to get a life), and there are always new goods to purchase.
I'm quite optimistic about TRS and will see how trading goes leading up to Christmas. I know observations are not the same as trawling through the balance sheets, but I would rather see cash registers ringing rather than not.
