Why don't we all move on? Mr Abbott did unequivocally say there would be no cuts to the ABC, contradicting the painstaking message that Turnbull and Hockey had been delivering during the election campaign. It was stupid of Mr Abbott, given the win for the Libs was in the bag and totally unnecessary to make any additional promises.
But either the government is going to be permitted to take measures to return the budget to surplus at some stage or not.
Seems to me that Labor are determined to oppose every measure to that end on a purely political basis, just so they can in the future say "well, you've failed to keep your promise to return the budget to surplus".
Sadly, this is the paltry and woeful state of the ineffectual characters who populate our parliament, when what's right for Australia is utterly secondary to scoring pitiful political points.
No wonder the electorate regard all politicians as right down there with the dregs of society, somewhere alongside journalists.![]()
