[1] Why not? We've had 1 degree of warming in the last century, and the human and economic losses from heatwaves, cold snaps, floods, cyclones and sea level rises etc. isn't materially different from the human and economic losses from heatwaves, cold snaps, floods, cyclones and sea level rises etc. - in real terms per capita - experienced 100 years ago.
We've adapted so far; there's no reason why we won't adapt in the next 100 years.
[2] The ecological system will both suffer, and benefit, from any increases in temperature. It's incumbent upon those who think the system is headed for catastrophe to qualify and quantify the effects - positive and negative - and then determine the net effect and weigh up our ability to manage what eventuates.
Unless one has been watching too many horror movies (under the specialised genre of climate science fiction) there shouldn't be too much cause for concern.
