I do admire your devotion and hard headed faith though

    Really? I don't.

The fact they are so fanatical about dismissing evolution shows, to me, that there is a nagging doubt deep in their subconscious mind, perhaps one they're not even aware of themselves. They're not so much trying to convince us as they are trying to shore up their own faith in the face of overwhelming evidence. That's why they're so rabid about it

A true believer would not be so scared of the challenge presented by evolution to their faith. They would look at the evidence objectively, and then realise that evolution is what it is, and that there is plenty of room in religious thought for accommodating both their faith and evolution.

The people I really admire are the ones who have been brought up in a religious environment, yet found the moral courage to challenge their beliefs. It's an incredibly traumatic experience for many of them, particularly since they are often lose friends and family in addition to their faith, and I'm not really surprised many never find the courage to do it.
