Hi Alan, I’m guessing you’re being facetious! The 'total mining sector' represents approx. 20% of our economy and about 60% of our exports. So while people scoff at the relevance of mining for the future of Australia they fail to understand that if we don’t “…dig up dirt and send it on a big boat to China” we lack the revenue needed for Government spending. What is ultimately concerning is that too many people disregard our dire fiscal position when discussing spending cuts as if these measures are just a conservative conspiracy. There is always a bottom line when it comes to spending and we have reached it!
