Katrina Dawson died protecting her pregnant friend and according to ABC radio this morning was accidentally shot by police. As a highly regarded young barrister, with three young children, her death will come as a huge shock to not only the legal fraternity, but also some of the most influential and wealthy families in Sydney. She had attended Ascham School at Edgecliff/Darling Point for her entire schooling. Her father is President of The Royal Sydney Gold Club at Rose Bay and former CEO of Arnotts. Her husband and other immediate family members are also influential members of the legal fraternity.

This should never have occurred and the failure lies with the ridiculously soft treatment applied to risky individuals such as Monis who was left on the streets to run amok despite multiple warning signs. Unbelievable.

Katrina's life has been lost under horrific and needless circumstances. Her family, friends and co-workers will be devastated and deeply shocked over and above the rest of us. May a lasting change for the better come as a result.

Tori Johnson was a fine example of courage under adversity.

May they both rest in peace knowing that their deaths will bring much needed changes to our laws.

Good to see the Muslims paying their respects with flowers and prayers. If anything, it seems to have brought us all closer as a community.
