Ok, so I emailed Jalna seeking confirmation of their listing on the Halal certified website below
http://www.halalchoices.com.au/product_lists_halal.html
Here is the reply i got after i asked for confirmation of Jalna being on the list.
Dear xxxxxxxxx
Thanks for writing to us.
Jalna does not support any religious or political efforts! We merely are manufactures of what we believe to be the healthiest yoghourt available to all beliefs and persuasions.
However we also need to consider the implications of not making our product available to all and pressure to do this does not come from these concerns but
from the actual market.( Supermarkets and their operations)
When referring to pressure from the supermarkets l am referring to all banners ( Coles Woolworths and IGA) as they are responding to the requests relayed to them from their customers.
Not knowing actual numbers of requests they are receiving for Halal, it is simply enough for them to say it is required.
We serve as do the supermarkets in a multinational country and although we all have our own individual beliefs and persuasions as a company and nation we cannot
ignore requests that fall within the residing laws of this country. ( “not to alienate any race , creed , religion or political belief!”)
Denying requests like this would deem any manufacturer as being an instigator of market segmentation which in itself could be a destructive influence to our lifestyles.
I trust this response will assist with your enquiry and Jalna continues as your preferred All Australian owned and manufactured yoghourt for many healthy years!
Kind Regards
xxxx xxxxx
