If Labor had supported the introduction of a consumption tax as they should have the Democrats would have been sidelined. At least they respected the fact that Howard took it to an election (- unprecedented in political history) and supported his mandate with the modifications that now cause it to be less than ideal by eliminating some items and restricting the ability of the government to increase it when required.
Howard was the hero. Labor was the villain (still continues to be) and The Silly Democrats were just that - silly.
Don't become part of the voodoo economics front - they have enough "classic comments" for now.
