That is pretty much the case now. Most of the major oil companies are already government owned (Saudi Armanco. Iranian National Oil, China National Oil, Pemex, Rosneft etc ) or de facto (BP, Shell, Total, Eni, Repsol etc) national oil companies.

If go back 100 years, even 50 years, China probably only had few thousand cars, but today, China has over 240 million cars.

Things change dramatically in all aspects, for commodities, increase of production costs, depreciation of paper moneies, inflation, etc. The only sector I saw is getting cheaper, is technology related, such as telephone bill.
