I can't help wondering why Malcolm Turnbull would even want the leadership position as a result of a possible spill on Monday. It is a poison chalice in the current environment, let someone else run the gauntlet until the next election. I reckon he might see how things pan out between now and the next Federal election campaign. We have the Qld State election results expected this week and NSW is next month and Vic has just gone to the ALP.

I would think he will back his leader (no matter who it is) all the way without compromising his own position and when things are a little clearer he may choose to make his move, in his own time and not in the time convenient to others.

From what I have watched over the years being the recipient of a role as a result of a leadership spill isn't usually a very long term role.
