re: accc smashes tls overcharging plan. I'd be very curious to know what percentage of customers realise HOW MUCH they could save if they used VoIP.

Ok, Telstra wants to spend money upgrading their network to VoIP. But telecommunications is becoming like "Food". Something people don't want to spend a lot of money on. And available from a multiplicity of shops.

If someone had asked, prior to the Cross City (Sydney) tunnel going ahead, how many cars could possible use it, then assume 100% did, they would have decided it was not going to be worth investing 900million.

Similarly, and without my having done any calculations, my instinct questions if Telstra will get a justifiable return on the proposed network upgrade. And that's why it is being so (apparently) aggressive about regulation.

Then 2 days ago Foxtel comes to me and offers 2 free months with IQ, whatever, with no strings attached right to end it. But, that means I get the cable brought up to the house for free and after, I can use it to get Optus Cable Internet. Then I can get ENGIN, or whatever and have VoIP and get ride or the copper wire phone. Who needs Telstra.

And why do they charge $300/GigaByte when Unwired, etc, charge $3? WHY? What does a gigabyte of data cost telecom? I bet it costs about 0.0000000000000001 cents. It’s all about squeezing blood from a stone. And I’m long since now, sick of being bled.

No-one can tell me. But surely a 10 fold difference (per giga byte) can’t be what Telstra are expecting and using to justify their future investments? Do they really think, like they seem to now think customers are willing to pay $300 when they get the same thing for $3?

That customers will not opt for an all you can eat connection for less than a Telstra measly 300MByte interconnect connection plan? One day we’ll look back and laugh at the thought that Telstra (and some others) actually sucked in customers with a ridiculous 300Mbyte plan when they could have given them a 2 Giga Byte plan for no more cost to the Telco.

The incredible aspect of these low MegaByte internet plans is that they trap customers into paying exorbitant excess downloads. And then Telstra actually thinks it will take more than one rip off before they loose customer loyalty?
