Because most arrivals were/are muslims, and we don't like that religion. Simple.

It is not only a religion but a system of laws, governing all aspects of life, like the Catholic religion did over much of Europe for centuries.

And we all know how badly that was for most people. That's why we don't like it.

Pretty simple I would have thought.
