I think it says it takes the ore to the barge which is 10kms from the mine site not that it is a "10km stretch of river"
My guess is it is barged all the way to the coast as the guy below seems to think Juneau is about 60kms from the mine and I am guessing Juneua has a port for transhipment frm the barge

Economics , I dont know that but they ship thermal and coaking coal by barge down the tributories of the Mississipi river and some other rivers in Virginia for Europe and coal is worth only around US$130.00 max per ton where as the concentrate is worth guessing $3000 a ton so as a % of costs shipping would seem not that big a deal.
