My father was in Coventry when the German's blitzed it. He was working night shift in a a factory making aircraft engines. I do not think that he ever recovered fully from the experience.
Deliberately bombing civilians like Guerinica, Rotterdam, various British cities, Dresden, Hishoshima Nagasaki, Various North Korean cities (done with conventional weapons but more destructive than Hiroshima) is obscene. To their credit the Americans are targetting military and not civilian targets in Iraq and they are not creating a fire storm which they could do with consumate ease.
