Very difficult to find spec sheets on existing mobile phone speakers. I found this page:

    http://www.t2spk.com/en/download/speaker-specification/mobile-phone-speaker.html

Where it seems they are tested as AKP say, to 0.1 metres or ten CM.

What these pages also indicate is the standard seems to be 0.1W at 10cm is the standard SPL sensitivity test. This is not a max SPL test. Most of these mobile phone micro speakers appear to be rated at around 1watt.

Most of these range from 83 to 89dB at 0.1w at 10cm. That would concur with the AKP chart announced this week, as they have appeared to use about 17dB to normalise to 1M. i.e. the typical mobile phone speaker line runs at approx 70db. Add 17 and you have 87db at 0.1w at 1m.

You could turn up the power on the mobile phone speaker by ten times to 1w which if the speaker was perfectly efficient would then give you 97dB, probably in reality about 95dB.

This to me indicates IMO they are comparing two different things on the chart. Their AP speaker lines I believe are max achievable SPL and the typical mobile phone speaker is SPL sensitivity, at approx 1/10th rated power. If my interpretation is correct, because these details are not stated on the chart or in the announcement,  I guess does not mean it is misleading, just missing information.

This may mean that the purported benefits below 700hz for a mobile phone speaker application are actually not real.

Two questions for the company I would like answers for are (out of many):
    1. Is the Typical Mobile Phone Micro-Speaker line on the chart you have provided in the Preliminary Results representative of SPL at 0.1Watts at 0.1Metres or is it Max SPL.
    2. Are the AP speaker actual and theoretical lines representative of Max SPL or benchmarked to another SPL below maximum. If below maximum  by how much in dBs.
