Current edition, page 54:
"Aurora Energy is testing the use of its electricity network to carry broadband to provide a new revenue source. Country Energy (NSW) is also preparing to test the technology and Silk Telecom, a company part owned by Powercor and Cheung Kong Group, has run one trial in Sth Aust and is preparing another in Melbourne. Cheung Kong Group has 40,000 people connected to broadband over powerlines in Hong Kong, at speeds of up to 8 million bits per second."
I am a shareholder in AGL and I have read that AGL is looking at BPL. Not sure whether Origin Energy has started looking at BPL yet. I might write to them as a shareholder and ask them to consider this new revenue stream.
In America, energy companies that use BPL have got rid of meter readers. The meter reading is automatically done by computers over the BPL. Saves costs of labour. Customers can choose energy, BPL, VoiP telephones and video on demand from the same supplier and pay one monthly bill.
