    Hi Jessie,
That was a damn good post. Really.

I concede the good humanitarian work Israel does in treating civilians.......I dont like the fact that they treat the Al Nousra/Al Qaeda types. We spent a decade fighting Al Qaeda, and Australian blood was spilled in the process. To me, its an insult to the memory of those Australians who lost their lives fighting them, that Israel patches those terrorists up and turns them loose again, to kill who? Why? Not really for humanitarian reasons but because at this time it suits Israel to use them to topple Assad. Whe Syria is sorted, those buggers wont even get a bandaid out of Israel.
ISIS really grew in Syria, out of Al Qaeda, Al Nousra, and elements of the FSA, to become what it is....a cult of sub-human murderers....butchers. A lot of them changed badges and joined ISIS, but, ideologically and morally, there is not a lot of difference between the lot of them.
Like you said :"The complexity is that FSA clearly splintered into all sorts of sub-groups - friends one day and enemies the next (in true Arab style)." How true.
But, they can re-badge anytime and morph into something else. A lot of them came over from Libya after Gadaffi was toppled....they care nothing for the Syrian people or democracy, they just fight and kill for a living...changing sides when it suits them. I just think we should put them down while we have them, cause then we wont have to face them on another front.
Ironic how Al Qaeda can be an enemy on one front, and an ally on another, eh?
re "(and they all understand there is distinction between the FSA, other militias and ISIL)", yes, there is a difference, but not that much of one, and really in name only.
Again, a lot of them went with ISIS.......and under the right circumstances, it wouldnt take much for the rest to go either, imo.
Hey, where will they go when Syria is sorted, one way or another? They'll just link up on the side of some other Islamic extremists creating mayhem somewhere else, such as Africa, and quite likely against the interests of the West.
Buggered if I know, really, but I've read of US figures who think that Syria under Assad is better than a Syria under those guys as far as Middle East peace goes.
If everyone finally agrees on that, there will be no need to be "humanitarian" towards those who dont know what the word means. And Israel may one day regret patching some of those sods up, because if they turn on Israel, they wont show a humanitarian side back.
    End of rant.
    cheers
    GZ
