Upgrading coal to reduce CO2

We all know pellet/briquetted upgraded coal can only be used in Vic and the majority of global power stations in a blend with at best around 20% upgraded coal and raw lignite.

This results in a 5-10% Co2 reduction compared to just raw lignite alone.

If you go to ultra supercritical boilers, up to 40% reduction can be achieved by using briquetted CHTD coal, Coldry pellets or Kobe UBC powder or briquette.

The above linked article from 9th April 2015 also says that by using DICE combined with upgraded slurried brown coal, up to 50% savings can be achieved.

DICE is also far cheaper and can be introduced incrementally, while also requiring very little cooling water.

To me DICE seems a no brainer not only for here in Aus, but anywhere that water for cooling is an issue but lignite is abundant.
