Meritocratic... I'll be sure to use that one in a sentence today. Having worked as a peri-op nurse, I've attended quite a few presentations by company reps. It all begins with lunch time presentations with company reps, Tim Tams and scones, PowerPoint slides, freebies, word of mouth, and eventually you start hearing surgeons saying "can we order in some more of that..?"
