He wasn't employed by IBM as Chief Scientist (or any other role.)
He was actually employed by a small company in Sydney called vCIS Pty Ltd.
vCIS was purchased by ISS (not IBM) in 2002.
In October 2003 ISS closed vCIS, terminated all employees (including Peter) and wrote off the business.
IBM bought ISS in October 2006 [THREE YEARS after Peter's employment was terminated.]
