I'm very sorry Chrys, but that last sentence about the 'planet being awash with unnatural levels of radioactivity' is just rubbish. I'm the same age as Mr Kimber, and anyone who has survived for as long as we have does NOT have radiation sickness, as anyone with any knowledge of radiation will tell you. I too have had many basal cell carcinomas cut out over the years, but I don't blame nuclear radiation, I blame my parents who let their fair haired and fair skinned fifth generation Scottish Caucasian son get badly sunburned many times. I have no doubt that Mr Kimber suffered similarly.
There is no EVIDENCE that these people suffered radiation sickness, nor that they suffered more cancer than did the general population. Lurid news stories of 78 YO cancer sufferers are no more real than the claims of 80 YO Hiroshima survivors claiming radiation problems.
My wife of 50 years died a horrible death from cancer - but I don't blame unclear testing!
By the way, background radiation levels are a natural part cause of the evolution of all life on Earth. We would not be here without it. In recent decades there there is now scientific evidence that very low radiation levels are actually beneficial to life - contrary to long-held claims of the environmental lobbyists that there is no safe level of background radiation.
