It's a state that's very friendly towards renewables and is in desperate need of fresh water (not sure what electricity prices are like over there, I hear the U.S. generally prices them lower than the average?).
The above article raises a question that'd never occurred to me: what's the efficiency of saltwater in to fresh water out? The plant mentioned above doesn't sound too promising: 2L salt water generates only 1L if fresh water, AND the leftover briney discharge is so unusable it gets jetted off with the normal wastewater and stuck back out in the ocean. I know CETO prioritises electricity production, but does anyone have the data on the efficiency of their fresh water production?
