Good comment - in cancer the 'mantra' is “right tumour/right drug”. Indeed, there are some saying that 'every cancer is a rare cancer' ie different in perhaps significant or perhaps just minor ways, but creating different outcomes for the same drug. This is why the blunt treatment of chemo/radiation is still standard - you just blast out the cancer (hopefully) without having to determine the exact types or genome or cause.

Oddly, this means that diagnosis may well be more important than treatment - if we can figure out exactly what is causing the cancer, we can fight it (perhaps); if we don't have that diagnostic tool then we are left guessing.

For the short term, at least, if anything can assist the blunt tools to be more effective and less toxic, they are needed (eg SIRFLOX). How long is 'the short term' - could be 10 years or could be 50 years. Clearly SIRFLOX is not the desired end point for cancer treatment (which is individualised treatment based on cancer genome diagnosis), but will we ever achieve the desired end point? I hope so, for the sake of patients; but I cant see it happening within a timeframe that will affect SRX's value any more than the potential for hydrogen cars affects the value of an oil company.
