You survived and now have life-long immunity... congrats. I'm not sure why you were hospitalised for it though, I guess you had complications?

I had measles as a child too, I got to stay home from school in a darkened room (I do remember the sensitivity to light and at the height of the fever just wanting to sleep). My mother fed me peanut butter on toast (her idea of food for the sick ). One of my own kids also had measles... no hospitalisation was necessary just some TLC, bed rest.

Here's some interesting research on administering Vit A to measles patients. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11405993

It made me wonder if that was the reason why the incidence of measles is higher in under-developed countries where nutrition is poor. The doses of Vitamin A were given after the patient had contracted measles but it makes you wonder if you would get measles at all if you had an adequate intake (of Vit A).

You might think this is far fetched, but remember scurvy was fully eradicated when they discovered it was due to a lack of Vitamin C.
