I don't know of any sentiment indicators showing voters are overwhelming in support of negative gearing, you sound like you're taking a shot in the dark.
If the government removed negative gearing, but replaced it with something else that had a chance of doing the intended job (increasing housing supply), I strongly suspect it would be a net win.
