The following deal may not come with a very high upfront but it does come with Genentech's willingness to be responsible for the entire pre-clinical and clinical program....
The Research and Licensing agreement was announced this week between Genentech and Irish biotech, Almac Discovery.
Almac Discovery is focused on identifying and developing innovative therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The collaboration with Genentech will focus on the discovery and development of small molecule inhibitors of a ubiquitin specific protease (USP) target. USPs are known to play an important role in a number of key oncogenic pathways and USP inhibitors are described as “a highly sought after, yet elusive drug class”.
Under the terms of the agreement, Almac Discovery will receive an upfront payment of $14.5 million and will be eligible to receive up to $349 million in milestone payments as well as escalating tiered royalties on any commercial sales of multiple products.
Genentech will be responsible for the entire pre-clinical and clinical development, as well as for the commercialisation of any products arising from the collaboration.
