TJ, please don't try to tag me with your suggestions that silicon will replace carbon now, or in the near future. That's your idea, and yours alone. Looks like another red herring, trying to distract attention from the main game. Silicon anodes are still very much in the research phase, with a great deal of work to be done. As for the economics, I'll leave that up to you to get any hard evidence that they can actually be made, economically, in a form which will continue to operate through a useful number of cycles, and possibly become a commercial proposition.
To date, such evidence seems conspicuously lacking. Great potential, maybe, but let's see the practical, working system.
Until then, my money's on graphite as the proven Li-ion battery system. And given the normal time for a new technology to evolve, I think it's probably safe for at least a decade.
