It is generally believed that we are over governed.
I was all in favour of abandoning state governments, but now I'm not so sure.
In Bendigo we had 5 local governments the Bendigo council & 4 surrounding shire councils All of these were merged into the City of Greater Bendigo some years ago.( In Kennett era) On balance has been a good idea & did save a lot of duplication and stupid competition between local areas.
But the danger I pointed out at the time has come to pass
We now have a very powerful council with mainly incompetent councillors in overall charge. People with political agendas, green agendas etc Most with no skills or experience. No commercial experience, practicallity & never been in the real word
Retired teachers, social workers, & the like who have nfi.
Would not like to see them have even more power if the setup was Federal... to Local
But on reflection the tier in between federal & local atm ( ie the state gvt ) have nfi either.
