It will not be a Toyota, they did not turn their back on REE.

Toyota sell hybrids, not all electric. For hybrids small axial flux motors are good because of the packaging they offer as they have to fit in the between the petrol motor and the transmission.
All electric cars have totally different packaging and radial flux motors fit the packaging better and can also offer just as good performance at lower cost.

The RAV 4 you are talking about was all electric and Toyota used Tesla motors and batteries which were better in the application.
Sales of the all electric RAV4 were poor and were not a commercial proposition, that is why Toyota "ditched" Tesla as you put it. People simply did not want to pay a price premium over the petrol version in that market segment.

When more all electric cars are made as battery prices come down and energy kWh per Kg increases, you will see more all electric cars and a large portion if not the majority will be using non REE based motors purely because they offer better packaging for all electric and better performance for the cost.

I will let you research axial and radial flux, but I will say they are different shapes.
