I should have added we are not talking a few kgs diffrence in weight of NiMh batteries vs Lithium Ion in ALL (or plugin) electric vehicles with a range of 400 to 500km. a
The Tesla 85kwhr battery pack weighs 540kg.
The prius 1.9kw hr battery weighs about 70kg
Just on the surface it would take over 3,000kg of prius battery tech to match the Tesla Li
Even allowing for better power density scaling up NiMh, say double the efficiency you are still looking at a NiMH battery pack that would weigh nearly 1,000kg more than teh Li battery pack.
That is why NiMh batteries are unsuitable for EV's but OK for Hybrids.
