Moondoong, it's disturbing to hear you trying to justify what is absolutely disgraceful behaviour and to demonstrate such limited insight into what happened at the weekend.
The young Aboriginal player who responded to West Coast supporters serially booing Adam Goodes is Lewis Jetta, someone who has shared just how much Goodes has done to assist him to develop as a young Aboriginal footballer in Sydney. He regards Goodes as an ornament to sport and was unable to cope any longer with the week-in, week-out racially based hatred being directed at Goodes.
In an earlier post on this thread I posted about how Essendon players weren't subjected to such serial abuse despite the drugs in sport scandal enveloping their club. What Goodes is copping is without precedent, including acts such as those committed by iron-men of the game when they've seriously injured other players.
Calling on Goodes and Lewis Jetta to 'just get on with it' equates to turning your back on overt racism, thereby ensuring it will fester and that its targets will be victimised and persecuted.
That's why Tony Abbott has proven to be such a dreadful choice as our PM. He has no moral authority and even less political capital. When he has spoken, comments like those about 'lifestyle choices' have inflamed the issues and exacerbated community divisions. Contrast that with Kevin Rudd's emphatic and genuine "Sorry!" and you can see why I long for someone like Malcolm Turnbull.
