    I was raised a Catholic as a child, and to me Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity would have more religious significance than Rome.

    I think even most devout Catholics dont think about the Pope or accept his invincibility.The Vatican is the "HEAD" of the Church, yes, but I dont think many people would think "ROME" if they were in spiritual mode, if you see what I mean.

    The "layering" of religious sites over the centuries IS a problem, I concede- but it shouldnt be!!
    Christians, Jews, Muslims really worship the same God.
    So why cant they SHARE these holy places?
    A bit utopian and simplistic, isnt it?

    btw, your confusion over my references to "dings" in Rome was a joke aimed at Viva if he happened to read it.
