A 777 is a large aircraft, the "flaperon" is a small part of it.

I have taken another screen shot of part a post y'day. The flaperon is the little piece of airframe in the centre. For the bigger picture goto Page 1.


It is a separate assembly which I can conceive could easily detach from the wing proper and float, especially if it is made of honeycomb carbon fibre.

INMARSAT should be applauded. It's work on the pings was ground-breaking and I think this part proves they were more right than wrong.
