Re " floating because some sections are airtight"......I had read in the Professional Pilots' Forum at PPRune.org that such parts are not allowed to be airtight otherwise there would be frequent and recurring stresses due to pressure/altitude changes which in turn would cause fatigue/cracking..... and in fact even honeycombed sections need full and free air circulation. .......I imagine fuel tanks in wings would be exempt from that requirement....
