    Hanrahan, The flap piece is the clue with this. If the auto pilot was in control it's very unlikely the flaps would have been extended.
    It would seem now to be a controlled ditching. That being the scenario you have to wonder what the motivation of the captain was to remain in the air for 6 or more hours on his own? That will probably never be known.
