Yes, It is a vacuous contribution on its own. You are correct, however there are many other bits of evidence out there to support the basic idea that people should be allowed to make their own choices re: drugs, much like they should be able to choose many other areas in their life that our government has decided to interfere with.

I pointed out that many people have been able to contribute significantly to society, despite using drugs (or perhaps even in some cases, because of using drugs, as Steve Jobs claims). This is simply to dispel to misconception that some have that using illicit drugs will almost certainly turn you into a useless wreck of a human being - when there is a ton of evidence to the contrary.

I too prefer a sober, mostly unhindered life, but I want to be able to step outside it periodically. Me, and many others, feel that is our natural right as otherwise law-abiding and tax-paying members of society, without the threat of prison looming over us.

I believe drugs should be legal, safe, heavily taxed and regulated (to pay for any adverse health effects that come from them), not advertised, and infrequently used - it is completely natural for humans to self-medicate in such a way, we've been doing it for millennia.
