Agreed Abbott position is the position of a weak leader ,he can kill off by the damage if he says we will vote on it at the next election, what he has proposed is just a stalling tactic because he is opposed to it and thinks his view should prevail rather than the peoples view.
The people should decide not politicians and with the recent revelations on expenses it just reinforces the public's view that politicians are untrustworthy and Labor had 6 years in office and got nowhere on the issue.

The Liberals will loose under Abbotts weak leadership and even with the help of BS will not save him because the people see him as weak and untrustworthy and not standing for much other than to oppose the people voting on marriage equality.
If we had more referendums we would have less politics and more productivity.
