I don't know whether they can legally do a referendum on this issue can they?
If it's a plebiscite it should be run in conjunction with the election so at least everyone has to turn up, whether they decide to tick a box or not. Otherwise there will be a bunch of people who would probably vote no who won't bother to vote at all, but you can pretty much guarantee the majority of the yes voting people would turn up and that would give us a skewed outcome.
