I bought their shares because I thought their product was so good. I have had their VOIP service for a bit over a year. (and my shares for about the same time :) )
It has dropped my phone bill from about $130 per month to about $30 per month.
Here is a summary of my voip experiences....
After I had been with engin for a few months, I decided to see what other deals there were. I unlocked my engin box (a simple software trick, that is available on the net), and signed up with other cariers on the second line of the engin box.
I tried :
Free voip, and
discount viop http://www.voipcheap.co.uk/en/index.html
They seem to be the same company. They give you free voip calls for a while, then you put twenty pounds in the account to continue the service. - Guess what... you get what you pay for. I found the quality of the calls with them was very average.
Then I tried:
BBP

They were more expensive than engin.
Then oztell:

They have a very complicated web site, and an equaly complex service department. It is a world company. THey sell their product world wide, so they have three call centers. One on each side of the planet, which are open for about eight hours each, then your call is transfered to the next call center arount the world. Dispite all of this, I got the system up and running with them. They had a selection of call rates, from very cheep to not so cheep. The very cheep calls were just that. They have since stopped the very cheep calls. After all that, their product was dificult to get going, and no cheeper than engin.
Here is a list of most of the voip providers to Australia:

After a while, MY WIFE told me to just stick to engin. Since I have had engin, my brother has lookied at it, and got it. My sister has looked at it, and got it. There are four people at my work that I know have got it.
In short, you need a 512 ADSL connection, and the kids can not download files while you are on the phone. You keep your telstra line, and use it for incomming calls and ADSL (drop the line back to the budget plan of $18.50 per month) Set your engin box up (very easy, and a good help service if you need it) . Then save on your phone bills.
On a 512 ADSL connection, you will not be able to tell that it is a voip call. You will just save money.
Yes I hold engin shares.
Yes I think they are a good company that can expand. Yes I recomend the service to my friends.
