I think something is going to happen very soon on the Victorian gas front. Victoria is facing a catastrophic loss of gas dependent industry and is fast approaching an energy crisis. The death knell has sounded for the brown coal industry in spite of the fact that
more than 90 per cent of Victoria's  electricity comes from brown coal. Gas contributes around four per cent. About four per cent comes from renewable sources like wind and water.
Less than one per cent of Victoria's  power today is from the sun from solar power.
This contrasts with a table supplied by the Bureau of Resource and Energy Economics (below), which shows that Loy Yang A was scheduled to close in 2035, after 51 years of operation. AGL extended its life by one-third for accounting purposes when it took control in 2012.

When coal is shut off what are Victorians going to use for power generation? For that matter what is Australia going to use for power generation? An alternative is gas but the Victorian (and NSW) government will not allow exploitation of onshore gas reserves yet are demanding the closure of brown coal generators while refusing nuclear. Qld is already 30% short on committed overseas sales. The prosperity of a nation depends on cheap available energy. Australia already has the world's most expensive government and will soon have the worlds' most expensive domestic energy. Go figure>
