I wonder if anyone here would be surprised to learn that the total expenditure on the dole in 2013/14 was half of the amount that was claimed for - wait for it - tax losses associated with negative gearing and wait for this one - 1/4 of the total cost of superannuation tax concessions.
Given that the top 10% of the income earners receive 25% of the benefits, we spend about the same on giving superannuation tax concessions to the most wealthy as we do on supporting the unemployed.
