LJ, I agree with that mostly. There's certainly a "need" in most mere mortals to believe in a higher order to feel they belong and put a bit of meaning in their lives. I know I didn't get honoured with such a need, and assume you didn't either, nor did a growing number of others! Perhaps it's just evolution, as we get smarter and more advanced all that God stuff makes less and less sense. I'd prefer to have faith in people rather than some mystical being which doesn't exist.
The need to worship some bloody thing has always been here, our traditional owners had all sorts of spirits which they believed in, look at Easter Island and the statues, ancient greeks had a god for every day of the week, Romans, Indians, Incas, every race on earth seems to worship some bloody thing which is not tangible and merely imagination. Ridiculous really when you think about it.
Why some have the need and others don't is the question which I'd love to know the answer to. It's not intelligence level, as very smart people are participators as are dumbies. I put it down to a gene, which instils that particular need in some but not all.
One thing I am sure of though...remove the need and the world would be better off.
