Hairyback, The Border Mail is one of Australia's best daily regional newspapers, having won numerous coveted awards. For decades it was locally owned and operated but was bought out by Fairfax.
Currently most of the news in The Border Mail is still generated locally but the paper content has reduced as greater focus has been given to its online website: http://www.bordermail.com.au/
Currently there is a campaign across regional Australia seeking intervention from the Abbott government to prevent the loss of that regional identity through reversion to national news from owners mastheads. Thus far it appears that Abbott is deaf to those regional concerns as he refused to even talk to locals while in Wodonga on Friday.
