Hmm, I'm not quite sure I follow your friends reasoning. Certainly selling to fund the acquisition is justifiable, but selling to avoid increasing your holding and paying extra tax on the extra profits?
It's a nice lazy warm spring afternoon over here in the west, so maybe I'm overlooking something obvious too.
