Dave, lets work with a bit of logic here.

Yes Abbott is still leader and there is little coming from the liberal party that his leadership is in question. Quite the norm but the cabinet leaks hint there is some thing going on.

The last spill motion was a reaction to some bad calls by Abbott and the poor polling, he was give time to change but we are back in the same situation of bad call and bad polling.

Speculation is that a bad result in the Canning by election will confirm to the liberal party that Abbott is the problem and be the catalyst to dump him.

Should Abbott survive the Canning by-election but the LNP still trail in the polls it would seem reasonable that the many Liberal Mp's who risk losing there seats and all the others that don't want to go back into opposition would be nervous.

Liberal MP's may well want to avoid the leadership problems of labor but self preservation is a strong motive.

Leadership change may be a last resort but if you are going to do it the election year is not a good time, Labor made that mistake bring Rudd back but he saved some seats.

With the last point logic would suggest that the liberal could wait until the end of the year to have a leadership change and start fresh in the new year.

In conclusion, Abbott is still PM now but may not be before the end of the year.

    Note my sig line
