Al Qa’ida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has used the 14th anniversary of the September 11 bombing to release an audio message attacking Islamic State in an apparent declaration of war.

The Egyptian doctor who took over al Qa’ida on the assassination of Osama bin Laden accuses Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of “sedition” in the audiotape, released on Wednesday, and stresses that the IS leader is not, as he claims to be, leader of all Muslims.
“Everyone was surprised” by Baghdadi’s declaration that he was the fourth caliph in Islamic history, Zawahiri says, adding the leader of the rival terror group anointed himself caliph “without consulting all Muslims.”
The tirade will “irreconcilably” divide al Qa’ida and Islamic State, intelligence experts told the American Broadcasting Corporation.
